BALBO MOD112CL-08N is a flush ceiling light built from several dozen smoked, mirrored glass spheres set in a nickel-coloured metal frame. The spheres measure up to 10 cm across and gather into a dense, irregular body 50 cm in diameter. The fitting sits against the ceiling — there is no drop and no cable. How much ceiling it takes up The shade is 50 cm across and, with the ceiling rose, comes down 32 cm from the ceiling; the cluster alone measures 29.5 cm. It is the kind of fitting you see the moment you walk in, so it is worth comparing those 50 cm with the width of the wall or the furniture it will sit above. The rose is only 15 cm across and 2.5 cm tall, so it covers an ordinary installation box and no more. The fitting weighs 3 kg net — on a plasterboard ceiling the fixing has to reach the supporting structure. Eight G9 sockets and the light they give Eight G9 lamps work inside the cluster, each up to 28 W. No lamps are included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself: eight light points is a lot, and at 2700–3000 K they give warm, comfortable light, at 4000 K something distinctly cooler and more businesslike. The glass is smoked and translucent — the G9 capsules show through the spheres as glowing points, and every sphere splinters their reflections. Light leaves in all directions, damped by the tinted glass, so the fitting lights the room softly rather than aiming at one spot. The manufacturer states plainly that it is not dimmable. Build, installation and operating conditions The frame is metal in a nickel finish and the shades are glass. The fitting mounts directly to the ceiling at an existing outlet. It is class I and therefore needs an earth conductor — in wiring without earthing it cannot be connected as intended. Supply is 220–240 V at 50 Hz, with no separate driver. The manufacturer specifies it for indoor use. The shipment weighs 4.1 kg gross. Where it belongs BALBO belongs to the Modern collection, and the style is modern in the plain sense: no ornament, the whole form living on the repetition of one element and on the contrast of nickel against dark glass.
