RAY is a table lamp on a round polished chrome base 15 cm across. A thin 1.3 cm tube rises from the base and bends over at the top, and an opal glass shade 12 cm across and 9 cm tall hangs from its end. The whole lamp stands 46 cm tall and weighs 1.5 kg. The head turns and tilts The shade sits on a joint: the maker gives a tilt angle of 90° and a turning angle of 350°. The light can therefore be aimed at a book, at the desktop or at the wall without moving the lamp itself — which is exactly what separates it from a lamp with a fixed shade. The glass is opal and opaque and the shade is open only at the bottom, so the output goes wherever the head is pointed and does not glare sideways. The shade is mouth-blown and finished by hand, so air bubbles can appear in the glass and its thickness can vary — each piece differs from the photograph in those details. What bulb it takes The socket is E14 and the maker gives a maximum bulb wattage of 25 W. That ceiling is low for a filament, so in practice it points at an LED bulb: at 25 W of permitted power an LED gives several times the light of an incandescent of the same rating. No bulb is supplied. The lamp can be dimmed, but only with a bulb marked dimmable and an external dimmer — the fitting itself carries no electronics or dial for it. Cable and supply The cable is 150 cm long with a clear plastic sheath, and the switch sits on the cable rather than on the body — you do not have to reach for the lamp to turn it off. The maker states the cable is not replaceable, so a damaged lead means service rather than a repair of your own.
