Three bands instead of a shade TORNADO is built from three wide, curved metal bands that wrap around the lamp in a spiral and overlap each other out of step. The name describes the construction: the whole thing looks like a whirl caught mid-turn. There is no shade in the usual sense — slots remain between the bands, light escapes sideways through them, and the bottom is left entirely open. What that means in practice The arrangement produces two effects at once. Downwards, through the open base, comes strong task light — which is why the fitting works over a table or a kitchen island. Sideways and upwards, light escapes through the narrow slots between the bands and lays a pattern of bright arcs across the ceiling and walls that shifts depending on where you stand. It is a decorative fitting that genuinely lights the room rather than merely looking the part. Forty centimetres of black The fitting is 40 cm across — a scale suited to a table for four to six and to an ordinary room; over a long table, two side by side beat one in the middle. The metal bands are painted matt black, with no gloss, so the body reads as a solid mass rather than a mirror bouncing the window back. Maximum drop is 100 cm; the cable is shortened at installation. E27, up to 40 W — the lamp matters The fitting has one E27 socket and takes a lamp of up to 40 W. No lamp is included, and with this construction the choice matters: the lamp is partly visible through the slots, so a frosted bulb gives soft light and an even pattern on the ceiling, while a clear bulb with a visible filament throws sharp, high-contrast streaks. 2700–3000 K underlines the warmth of the black; at 4000 K the fitting starts to read as technical. Installation and weight The structure weighs 1.82 kg net — light enough for an ordinary ceiling fixing, but heavy enough that plasterboard deserves proper cavity fixings rather than screws alone.
