Newbrighton is a garden bollard shaped as a plain brass cylinder closed by a solid domed cap. The body carries a brushed finish with a visible matt grain, and below the cap runs an opal diffuser screened by three horizontal brass rings. The whole fitting stands 60 cm tall and is 10.2 cm across. How much room it takes and what it weighs At 10.2 cm across the bollard occupies less ground than an ordinary flowerpot and can stand right at the edge of a path. A height of 60 cm means the light reaches the surface from close range, below an adult's eye level — the bollard lights the route rather than the whole surroundings. The fitting weighs 2.5 kg, 2.9 kg boxed; the carton measures 17 × 67.5 × 17.5 cm. Elstead offers a lower mini version in the same family and the same finish (NEWBRIGHTON-MB-BRASS), so a path can be run at two heights. Which lamp you have to buy The fitting has one E27 socket and takes a lamp of up to 40 W. No lamp is included, so colour and brightness are your choice — an E27 LED of around 800 lm matches the old 60 W bulb and stays well inside that wattage ceiling. This is not a fitting with a built-in LED module, so the lamp is changed like an ordinary bulb. The manufacturer states that the fitting works with dimmable lamps: dimming therefore needs a lamp described as dimmable plus a dimmer in the circuit. Installation and resistance to the weather Newbrighton is intended for exterior use only and carries IP55 — the housing is dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, so rain and hosing down the garden do it no harm. It runs on 220–240 V mains and belongs to protection class I, which requires an earth conductor, so the garden supply has to be brought to it earthed.
