Ponte 2086 is a five-light chandelier: a rigid rod drops from a cylindrical ceiling cup, and five horizontal arms run out from it, each carrying an inverted tapered shade in navy blue velvet. The metalwork is steel in a brassed finish that the manufacturer calls dark brass. Size and hanging The fitting spans 71 cm and stands 63 cm tall measured from the ceiling. Those 63 cm are the whole drop - the rod is rigid and does not shorten, so the height of the shades' lower edge follows directly from the room height. A 71 cm spread sits well over a table 80-100 cm wide; over a narrower top the arms reach past its edge. The chandelier weighs 3.4 kg. The manufacturer's instruction card shows the earthing pictogram, so this is a class I fitting and a protective earth conductor at the ceiling box is required. What lamps it takes, and how many Five E27 lampholders each take one lamp of up to 15 W. No lamps are included. The fitting card crosses out the incandescent lamp and ticks LED, so the 15 W ceiling applies to LED lamps. The same card gives the maximum lamp envelope: 50 mm across and 105 mm long. The usual A60 pear measures 60 mm and will not go in - what fits is G45 golf balls, candles and slim tubes. The dimmer pictogram is ticked, so the fitting permits brightness control, provided the lamps themselves are dimmable and a dimmer sits in the circuit. Shades and finish The shades are covered in navy blue velvet, open at top and bottom and pale on the inside. Light therefore leaves in two directions, down onto the table top and up onto the ceiling, while the fabric holds it back at the sides - from the eye level of someone seated, the lamps are not visible. 3+2 switching, and the rest of the family Argon allows this fitting to be modified for 3+2 switching: the five light points are then split across two independent circuits, three arms and two, so that half the chandelier can be lit on its own. The modification needs a second conductor at the ceiling box and is agreed before the order.
