CHINKA is a floor lamp on a turned solid-oak stem that narrows at mid-height and widens again towards the base. It carries a cotton shade shaped as a cone open at the top, black with a silver thread woven through it. The lamp stands 160 cm tall.How big it is and how much floor it takes The base is 15 cm across, so the lamp takes up less floor than an average plant pot — it fits between a sofa and a wall, or in a corner with no room left for a side table. The shade is 60 cm tall and 25 cm across at its widest point, the top. At 160 cm overall the top edge of the shade sits above the head of a seated person, so the light does not fall straight into the eyes. The manufacturer recommends the lamp for a living room, a dining room and a bedroom.Which bulb it needs The lamp has a single E27 socket and takes a bulb of up to 60 W; the manufacturer also allows an LED lamp, so colour and brightness are yours to choose. The conical shade is open at the top, so part of the light goes to the ceiling and returns reflected while the rest passes through the cotton weave — this is supplementary light rather than a room's main lighting.Build and connection The stem is turned from solid oak, and the paints and oils used on its surface carry certificates confirming they are safe for the environment. The cotton shade is cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth. The lamp ends in a 1.5 m white cable with a plug, so it needs no installation at all — it is simply stood within reach of a socket.
