Doedoe Natural M is a wall light shaped as a half-cylinder woven from upright rattan rods, bound with three bands of seagrass cord. The rods keep the pale natural colour of rattan, and the whole piece sits on a black metal frame that shows only along the top and at the back. How big it is and what it looks like close up The shade is 45 cm wide, 33 cm high and projects 19 cm from the wall — a figure worth comparing with the clearance in the passage it will hang in, because in a narrow corridor it reaches into the walking line. The back is open and flat, so the piece sits against the wall along its whole rear edge. The gaps between the rods are deliberate: once lit, the light escapes through them in vertical streaks and draws a pattern on the wall, visible in the styled photograph. Each piece is hand-woven from a natural material, so shade and weave density vary slightly from one to the next. What you get and what you have to buy separately This is the shade alone. The manufacturer states plainly that no cable is included and that the piece goes over a standard E27 fitting — you buy that separately, along with the bulb, because no light source is included either. When choosing the bulb, remember that rattan and cord are natural materials: an LED source is the sensible choice, since it does not heat the shade the way a filament does. Where it can hang and how to look after it The manufacturer intends this light for hallways and entrances, where diffused light is enough and the weave is looked at from close range. It is for indoor use only: the manufacturer states that outdoor use, including under cover, is not covered by the warranty, because moisture damages the fibres.
