ALGINE 20 W is a square recessed ceiling light measuring 25 cm along each side. The housing is white-painted aluminium and the light leaves through a matt diffuser set back inside the frame. The LED source is built in permanently. Size and installation The fitting measures 250 x 250 x 26 mm, so once installed it sits almost flush with the ceiling. It pushes into a prepared opening on the two spring clips visible in the photo - no screws are needed, but 26 mm of clear depth above the ceiling plus room for the cable have to be available. IP20 protection and the manufacturer's "for indoor use" rating rule out mounting outdoors or anywhere water can reach the fitting. The operating temperature range runs from -20 to +40 degrees Celsius, so a cold but dry room - a garage, cellar or store room - stays within the conditions the maker allows. How much light it gives 1400 lm is roughly what two old 60 W incandescent bulbs produced, so a single fitting already works as the main light in a smaller room rather than only as a supplement. 3000 K is warm white, noticeably warmer than daylight and close to a traditional bulb. The 120-degree beam is wide, so the light covers considerably more than the spot directly beneath the fitting and several units can be spaced out without dark bands between them. Colour rendering of Ra 80 is enough for utility rooms; where colours have to match exactly - at a worktop or a mirror - it is on the low side. The diodes last around 17,000 hours on average and cannot be replaced: when they are spent, the whole fitting is changed. What it needs to run This is a low-voltage fitting: it runs on 24 V DC and draws 833 mA, which works out at 20 W. No driver is supplied, so connecting it to a 230 V installation calls for a separate 24 V DC power supply rated at 20 W or more; with several fittings on one supply, its rating follows the sum of their loads. The manufacturer states the fitting can be dimmed. Dimming happens in the 24 V circuit, at the driver or controller, not with an ordinary 230 V wall dimmer.
