The Savana Mud L is a pendant lamp whose shade is hand-formed from papier-mâché. The shade is a tall dome open at the bottom, 40 cm across and 42 cm high, and its surface keeps the visibly uneven texture of paper pulp in a sandy beige tone called "Mud" with darker flecks. The cable and the metal fitting at the top of the shade are black. How large it is and what to hang it over A shade 40 cm across keeps good proportions over a table 80–90 cm wide. The usual rule is to leave its bottom edge 70–80 cm above the tabletop: the light then covers the whole table without shining into the eyes of people sitting opposite each other. The shade alone is 42 cm tall, and that adds to the cable length when you work out how low the lamp will hang — the figure to compare against your ceiling height. What comes with it and what light source it takes The manufacturer supplies the shade with a complete suspension set: a cable ending in a European standard plug (type C) and a socket with an E27 thread. The plug means the lamp connects to a wall outlet rather than to a ceiling junction box, so getting it running does not involve the fixed wiring. The socket takes one E27 light source, so you choose colour and brightness yourself; over a dining table most people pick 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellow light. The shade is opaque and open only downwards, so it directs the light onto the surface beneath it rather than around the room. Papier-mâché: finish and care Every shade is formed by hand, so tone, texture and outline differ from piece to piece — the manufacturer counts those differences among the product's characteristics. The inside of the dome is left raw and shows the same fibrous material as the outside. Paper pulp absorbs water, which is why the manufacturer intends this model for indoor use only. Clean the shade with a dry, soft cloth, without water or liquid cleaners, and keep it away from damp, direct sunlight and heat sources. Installing it outdoors, including under cover, is not covered by the warranty. What interiors it suits The manufacturer intends the Savana for above a dining table, above a kitchen counter or island, and for the living room.
