PALINZA is a flush ceiling light shaped like a pebble — an irregular dome with a wide scooped opening on one side, through which the light escapes. The body is made of polyurethane and resin and finished in grey with a rough, stone-like surface. The inside of the opening is kept in a warm gold tone. How big the fitting is and where to put it The body measures 50 cm wide, 40 cm deep and 25.5 cm high, so it covers an oval patch of ceiling half a metre across and drops a quarter of a metre below it. In that proportion the fitting also works under a lower ceiling, where a pendant would take up too much headroom. It mounts straight onto the ceiling at a single connection point and runs on 230 V mains. The opening in the shade faces one way, so during installation you turn it towards the part of the room you want lit — over the sofa, along a hallway, or towards a wall. How much light PALINZA gives The fitting takes one E27 lamp of up to 12 W. No bulb is supplied, so you choose the colour of the light and the brightness yourself. The 12 W limit means an LED lamp in practice — a traditional filament bulb at that wattage gives no useful brightness. The shade is solid and opaque, and light leaves it only through the side opening. The gold inner surface tints it warm and throws it diagonally downwards, so PALINZA gives directional, atmospheric light rather than even general lighting for a whole room. Dimming is possible, but it needs a dimmable bulb and a dimmer in the circuit. What interior it suits The catalogue lists PALINZA as a modernist and modern fitting: a body with no ornament, no visible screws or frames, closer in shape to a stone than to a geometric figure. The grey matt texture sits well with exposed concrete, pale timber and textured plaster.
