Cottage is a pendant with an open dome shade 60 cm across and 36 cm deep. The shade is built from vertical bamboo slats on an iron frame, held by woven bands; the whole thing is stained black. The shade is open — what that changes The slats do not meet, so light leaves not only downward but sideways, between the rungs. A pattern of light and dark bands appears on the ceiling and walls, and the light scatters more widely than it would from a solid shade. That has one practical consequence when choosing a bulb: the glass is visible from the side and from below. A frosted or opal lamp gives a soft result, while a clear bulb with an exposed filament will glare once the fitting hangs at the eye level of someone seated. Which bulb it takes The fitting takes one E27 lamp up to 60 W, or the LED equivalent. No lamp is supplied, so colour and output are yours to choose — over a table, 2700–3000 K and around 800 lm usually works. The maker states the fitting can be dimmed, but only with a dimmable light source — the lamp itself has no dimming electronics, and a dimmer in the circuit is needed as well. Where to hang it The maker intends Cottage for above a kitchen table, over a dining area — several in a row included — and in a bedroom. A 60 cm shade holds its proportion over a table about 90 cm wide; over a longer top, two or three side by side work better than one. The cable is 150 cm and black; connection is at terminals. The fitting hangs from a ceiling hook. It weighs 1.46 kg, so an ordinary hook in the ceiling is enough. Build and mounting The construction pairs an iron frame with bamboo — the bamboo supplies texture and a warm, natural grain, and the black finish unifies the two. An IP20 rating places it in dry interiors. It is protection class I and therefore requires an earth conductor; worth checking before installing in an older two-core circuit.
