The neutralizing additives polysorbate (Tween®) 80, sodium thiosulfate, cysteine, histidine, and lecithin reverse the growth-inhibiting effects of most disinfectants and antiseptics. Histidine neutralizes formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing agents. Sodium thiosulfate inactivates sodium hypochlorite and acidified sodium chlorite.
