The Mantra SAONA C0195 is a square recessed downlight, 14.5 cm to a side and only 2.2 cm high. The frame is aluminium in matt white, and the lit surface is closed by an acrylic diffuser flush with that frame. The cut-out to make The ceiling opening is square and measures 130 × 130 mm — not a hole for a core bit, but four straight cuts. The 145 mm frame covers 7.5 mm around each edge of the opening, so a few millimetres of inaccuracy disappear underneath it. The body is 2.2 cm high — a figure to hold against the clear space left above the ceiling where it is going. The height is not adjustable, and the fitting weighs 0.37 kg net. The light it gives At 12 W the fitting returns 990 lm, a little more than an old 60 W bulb gave. The acrylic diffuser spreads that across the whole face of the panel, so the light is soft and even with no distinct cone — general lighting for a small room, or one of several points in a larger one. At 3000 K the light is warm white, close to a traditional bulb, and colour rendering is Ra 80. The fitting is not dimmable — the maker states this outright, so it should not go on a circuit with a dimmer. Supply and service life The fitting runs on 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz mains and is protection class II, so it needs no earth conductor. The LED module is built in and the maker describes it as non-replaceable: the life of the fitting is the life of the diodes, declared at 30 000 hours over 30 000 switching cycles. Recessed SAONA is a whole family: besides this version there are 6, 18 and 24 W variants, 4000 K versions and round counterparts.
