The V-TAC VT-7710D is a 10 W LED downlight for suspended ceilings that brings together three things rarely found together at this price: a manufacturer-declared 90-minute fire integrity, an IP65 rating, and Bluetooth control from a phone covering both dimming and a colour temperature that runs from 2700 to 6500 K. The fitting is 8.3 cm across and 5.7 cm deep, and drops into a Ø 65 mm cut-out. Fire rating — what it actually means Every hole cut into a fire-rated ceiling — plasterboard on a frame, a timber floor, a suspended ceiling separating storeys — is a breach in that barrier. In a fire an ordinary downlight turns it into a chimney: flame and hot gases pass through the fitting into the void above. The standard answer is a separate fire hood fitted over the top, bought separately and taking up extra space. The VT-7710D is, as the manufacturer states, designed to retain 90 minutes of fire integrity — being installable without a separate hood is precisely what the price buys. Keep in mind that the fire rating of the barrier as a whole always follows from its construction as a whole, so building sign-off needs documentation matching the actual ceiling build-up. V-TAC publishes LVD, EMC and RoHS declarations and test reports for this model. IP65 on the room side IP65 means fully dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction. That is the level which lets the fitting go where an ordinary IP20 downlight has no business being: in the ceiling above a shower enclosure or bath, in a kitchen above an island, in a utility room, in a covered entrance or on a terrace under an eave. The body is die-cast aluminium, which carries heat away from the COB diode — that is what decides whether the fitting reaches its declared 30,000 hours. Colour temperature and dimming from a phone The fitting works in 3-in-1 mode: colour temperature is set steplessly from a warm 2700 K to a cool 6500 K. In a bathroom that means one fitting for two jobs — 2700 K in the evening, 5000–6500 K in the morning for shaving or make-up. Dimming and colour change both run over Bluetooth from a phone app; no wall dimmer and no control wire are needed, which simplifies installation in a finished ceiling. Output is 850 lm in a fairly tight 38° beam with a peak intensity of 2483 cd. At 2 m the pool of light is about 1.4 m across. The lens works as an anti-glare element, and the diode strikes instantly, in 0.001 s, with no warm-up. Light quality: the figures from the EPREL registry The model is registered in the EU EPREL database under number 1169263, so the following values are a declaration the manufacturer is legally answerable for: CRI 80 with an R9 of 15 — general colours are rendered correctly, but saturated reds come out flat; that is typical of COB diodes in this class and worth knowing if the fitting is to light wood, brick or food. Flicker PstLM = 0.1 and stroboscopic effect SVM = 0 — both an order of magnitude below the EU limits (1.0 and 0.4), meaning steady light, safe for work and for cameras. Colour consistency 3 SDCM per the registry (the manufacturer's own datasheet quotes a more cautious <6) — several fittings from one batch will match each other. Displacement factor cos φ = 0.82 and zero standby consumption. Lumen maintenance factor 0.96 at the end of the declared life. Installation data The cut-out is Ø 65 mm and the trim ring 83 mm, so it covers the edge with margin. Installed depth is 57 mm. The driver is a separate, isolated module with a terminal block — wiring comes down to landing the cable, with no soldering and no dismantling of the fitting. It runs on 220–240 V / 50 Hz and does not tilt: it fires straight down, which with a 38° beam has to be planned into the spacing from the start. Permitted ambient temperature is −20 to +45 °C, and the fitting withstands more than 15,000 switching cycles — relevant if it is driven by a motion sensor. Life, energy, warranty The COB diode is permanently built in and cannot be replaced; declared life is 30,000 hours, about 27 years at three hours a day. Efficacy is 85 lm/W, which corresponds to energy class G — worth knowing that the EU light-source scale in force since 2021 awards class A only from 210 lm/W, so most LED fittings on the market today sit in the E–G band.
