FORTANO is a ten-arm chandelier 86 cm across. Ten flat arms radiate from a brass rose and rod, and at the end of each stands a matt white cylindrical shade, Ø 10 × 25 cm, held in an open brass bracket. The middle section of the rod is black — the only contrasting note in the whole piece. Brass with a black band The manufacturer describes the finish as black and brass, and that is what it looks like: the rose, the upper rod, all ten arms and the shade brackets are brass, while black appears only on a short middle section of the rod and on the collars beneath the shades. The overall impression is decidedly brass, with the black stretch acting as a band that breaks up the length of the vertical tube. The shades are matt glass, opal all the way through — they glow evenly over their full height, with no hot spots and no bulb showing through. All ten sit open-end up, so the chandelier throws its light mainly upwards and sideways, bouncing it off the ceiling. Ø 86 cm — and a drop of only 54–76 cm This is the number to check before buying. The body alone is 53.4 cm tall, and the total installed height adjusts only between 54 and 76.4 cm — the rod comes in segments and gives you a mere 23 cm of latitude. This is not a long-drop pendant. On a 2.5 m ceiling the bottom of the chandelier will sit between 174 and 196 cm off the floor. Over a 75 cm table that leaves 99–121 cm of clearance — higher than the 70–90 cm usually used for dining pendants. FORTANO is therefore conceived as central lighting for a room rather than a low light over a table top: it goes in the middle of a living room, a large dining room or a restaurant floor, where people have to walk under it. At 86 cm across it needs clear space around it. In a room under 20 m² it will dominate. Ten E27 sockets — how much light that is The chandelier has ten E27 sockets, each rated 40 W (up to 400 W in total). The manufacturer supplies no bulbs and publishes neither a lumen figure nor a colour temperature — both depend entirely on what you fit: 10 × 8–9 W E27 LED (60 W equivalents) — around 8000 lm for 90 W. That lights the main zone of a large living room with room to spare. 10 × 40 W decorative filament bulbs — around 4000 lm at the full 400 W. A warm, yellow character and a markedly bigger bill. For a ten-light chandelier it is worth buying a matched set of identical bulbs — with this many points, colour differences between individual bulbs are immediately visible. Since the shades are matt and hide the source, bulb shape does not matter; what matters is the colour (2700–3000 K for a living room) and that all ten are the same. The manufacturer declares the fitting non-dimmable. The piece itself contains no electronics — it is ten plain sockets — so in practice dimming comes down to the bulbs and the wall dimmer, but the manufacturer does not warrant it working that way. Installation, weight and safety Mounting is ceiling-fixed on a rigid rod: a 15 cm rose screws to the ceiling and the rod is assembled from segments that set the height within the stated range. There is no hook and no chain. The fitting weighs 7.66 kg net (8.77 kg packed) and is protection class I, which means it requires an earth conductor — installing it without earthing is not permissible. At that weight the fixing has to reach structural ceiling or properly rated anchors; plasterboard alone will not do. Supply 220–240 V, 50 Hz, protection IP20 — dry interiors only.
