This is not a lamp — it is the round ceiling rose Mantra ELSA 8266, the mounting base from which three pendants from the same family are hung. The plate measures 52 cm across and only 3 cm high, is made of metal in a gold finish (RAL 1014), and has three cable outlets set out in a triangle. The important part: this is a modular system ELSA is sold in parts, and that is the first thing to know before buying. The pendants in the collection — the ball (ref. 8244), the cup (8254) and the bell shade (8249), all in opal glass with bronze hardware for E27 — are labelled by the manufacturer explicitly as "sin base", that is, without a base. Buying this rose alone gets you a mounting plate and nothing else: the suspensions, the shades and the lamps must all be ordered separately. Only the combination makes a finished light. The advantage of splitting it this way is freedom: one base can carry three identical shades or three different ones, levelled or cascaded, and the fittings can be swapped years later without touching the ceiling wiring. Form and finish The plate is exceptionally shallow — at 52 cm across, 3 cm of depth makes the base read as a gold disc stuck to the ceiling rather than as a separate structural element. The finish is matt gold in RAL 1014 (ivory with a gold cast), a warmer and more restrained colour than brass or a bright "gold". The metal construction weighs 2.68 kg. The ELSA collection is by the Spanish designer José Ignacio Ballester, and it is manufactured in Spain. Installation The base connects to a 100–240 V supply at 50/60 Hz — a wider range than the usual 230 V, which makes it usable outside Europe. It is a class I fitting and therefore requires an earth conductor. An IP20 rating places it in dry interiors. The base itself is neither dimmable nor height-adjustable — any length adjustment comes from the individual pendants' own suspensions. The other ELSA bases The same component exists in black (ref. 8515) and as a seven-light version in white (8263). If a linear arrangement suits better than a circle, the collection includes bars: three-light in black (9465) and chrome (9463), and four-light in white (9433). An ELSA cable grip (8518) is also available for adjusting the drop.
