The STEINEL L 910 S is an outdoor wall light that throws light upwards and downwards at once, drawing two symmetrical cones on the façade. It stands 235 mm tall at only 80 mm wide and 86 mm deep — a narrow, vertical silhouette that fits even a slim pier beside a door. The housing is aluminium and the cover opal plastic; the anthracite version is a dark matt grey, and the same model is also made in silver. A sensor hidden in the housing: 180° and 12 metres The infrared sensor is set into the body discreetly enough to be invisible from a distance, yet it covers a full 180°. Reach depends on the direction of movement, and that is the detail that decides how well it works: walking across the sensor's field you are picked up at 12 m (226 m² of coverage), walking straight at the light only at 4 m. Hang the fitting side-on to the path rather than facing the gate. Optimum mounting height is 2.2 m, maximum 2.50 m. Basic light level — the fitting never goes fully dark The most useful function on this model is the basic light level (LED effect light): after dusk the fitting glows dimmed, a restrained accent on the wall, and switches to full brightness the moment movement is detected. It can be set for the whole night or half of it. Add the soft light start — the light rises rather than hitting the eye — and the option of four hours of continuous light, handy for work in the garden or for a party. Several lights as one system L 910 S units can be interconnected by cable in master/master mode: movement seen by one switches on every connected fitting. With two or three placed around a house, one step on the drive lights the whole property. The settings — twilight threshold 2-20 lx and on-time from 120 s to 15 minutes — are made on DIP switches under the cover, out of the weather. No remote control is provided. Light values and service life The LED delivers 797 lm at 9.8 W, an efficacy of 81 lm/W. 3000 K is warm white — on brick, timber or warm-toned render it looks natural, where cold light would bleach those colours out. The colour rendering index is 82, and SDCM3 consistency means two units bought separately will light in the same shade. Declared LED and power-supply life both exceed 60 000 h; heat is handled by passive Passive Thermo Control. The light source cannot be replaced — when it reaches its end, the whole fitting is replaced. Installation and resistance The fitting is for surface wiring on a wall and is Class II, so no earth conductor is needed. IP44 protects against splashing water from any direction, and IK03 means impact resistance to 0.35 J — enough beside a front door, but not where vandalism is a risk. Operating range is -20 to +40 °C. Mounting accessories are included, and STEINEL gives a three-year warranty.
