KURAGE is a pendant light with a shade of clear green glass 26 cm across. The glass is ribbed and its lower rim is cut into even arcs, so the shade reads as an opened flower. The lampholder and the round ceiling cup are antique brass in colour, and the whole fitting hangs from a twisted beige textile cord. How big it is and how high to hang it The shade measures 26 cm across and 18 cm deep, so it lights one specific spot rather than a whole room. Above a table the bottom rim usually sits 70–80 cm above the top; over a longer worktop, two or three of them in a row cover it more evenly than a single shade of this diameter. The cord is 150 cm long and sets the maximum drop; the surplus is shortened during installation to suit your own ceiling height. The fitting weighs 1.8 kg. How much light it gives It takes one bulb with an E27 screw base rated up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so brightness and colour are yours to choose: around 800 lm matches the old 60 W incandescent, and 2700 K gives warm, slightly yellow light. The glass is tinted but see-through, so light leaves through the opening and through the walls of the shade at the same time, casting a green reflection around it. The bulb stays visible from below and repeats in the ribs of the glass, which makes its shape and a clear or opal envelope worth considering. Dimming works only if the bulb itself is dimmable, so a dimmer and a bulb described as dimmable are both needed. Build and connection The body is iron and the shade is glass. The lamp is wired permanently to a terminal block inside the ceiling cup rather than plugged in, and as a Class I fitting it needs an installation with an earth conductor. Ribbed glass, a brass finish and a twisted textile cord add up to a retro look.
