akin is an aluminium LED profile for building into plasterboard, lacquered Reed Green RAL 6013. The side flanges finish under the filler and all that stays visible on the surface is the line of the cover. The section is rectangular and the maker gives the beam direction as perpendicular — the light goes straight down. Two widths that have to be told apart The body is 32.1 mm across at the top, where the cover clips in, 30.1 mm lower down, and 23.4 mm tall. With the flanges the section spreads to 74.1 mm — and that is the figure the groove in the build-up has to be prepared for, because the flanges are part of the same extrusion. Inside, the channel is 28.3 mm wide, and the maker gives the strip width as 2 × 12 mm: two strips fit side by side. The base is thickened to carry heat away better, and the fixing holes are countersunk, so the screw heads sit flush with the floor of the profile and stay clear of the strip. What comes with it and what is bought separately This is the bare profile. Cover, end caps and LED strips are separate articles: akin takes the polycarbonate midi cover in opal, clear and black, and the end caps are made in Reed Green lacquer too, so the ends can be matched to the colour of the profile. The driver is mounted outside the profile — there is no room for it in the channel, so it needs a box or a recess planned elsewhere in the installation. The profile cannot be sealed: the maker offers no gasketed version of it, so it belongs in dry interiors only. Length and joining lengths together The maker runs akin in 1000, 2020 and 3000 mm. This piece is 2020 mm, 2 cm more than the rounded name suggests — worth counting at its full value when you work out how much you need.
