The Race Car 4112314 is a children's table lamp whose base is a racing car cut from solid wood and screwed to a plywood plate. Above it, on a chromed stem, sits an oval cotton shade — white with pale blue dots. The wood is left raw and unpainted, so the grain shows. How big it is and where it stands The lamp is 27 cm long, 14 cm wide and 32 cm high. The base is rectangular rather than round, so it takes up a strip 27 by 14 cm on a surface — compare that figure with the free space on the bedside table or on the child's desk. The manufacturer intends it for a child's room. The car standing along the plate is as much a toy shape as a lamp base, so this is a lamp meant to be on show rather than tucked into a corner of the worktop. The bulb and switching it on The fitting has one light point with an E27 thread and a 60 W ceiling, running on 230 V. The manufacturer allows an LED bulb and recommends a white or natural light colour — under it the wood and the colours of the toys in the room look as they really are. The cord ends in a plug and carries a rocker switch on the cable itself. The lamp therefore needs no wiring work: a socket nearby is enough, and a child turns it on and off at the cord rather than at the bulb. What it is made of and how to clean it The car and its wheels are turned and cut from wood, and the plate beneath is plywood with a visibly layered edge. The stem between base and shade is chromed metal. The shade is sewn from cotton. The manufacturer states that it is wiped with a dry or damp cloth when soiled and leaves no mark.
