A reversible gimbal — a shade for a table lamp or a pendant This is the shade's most important feature and the thing that decides the purchase. The internal gimbal is reversible: turned one way it rests on the lampholder of a table or floor lamp; turned the other it lets the shade hang from a flex as a pendant shade. One product therefore covers two quite different uses — there is no version to choose at ordering and no adapter to buy. Silk, not "fabric" Endon states the material precisely: 100% silk in ivory, with edges taped in pure silk as well, and a lining of cream polyester inside. The distinction has a visible consequence: silk passes light in a warm, faintly golden tone and carries the characteristic uneven sheen that a polyester imitation cannot reproduce. The lining does a different job — it diffuses the light and hides the bulb, so its outline does not show through from outside. Pleats laid by hand The construction is a box pleat finished with hand-stitched single pinch pleats. Each fold is formed and sewn individually, which over a circumference of more than 120 cm means several dozen hand operations per shade. That is also why two examples are not identical to the millimetre — the rhythm of the pleats is handmade, not pressed. Tapered: 20 cm at the top, 40.5 cm at the bottom The shade narrows upward — top diameter 20 cm, bottom 40.5 cm, height 26 cm. That is the classic empire proportion: light leaves as a broad field downward, while the top opening lets some of it reach the ceiling. On a table base the proportion matters — 40.5 cm is a large shade, suiting a body of roughly 45–55 cm. Lamp: E27 or B22, up to 60 W No bulb is supplied. Endon lists two caps: E27 (screw) or B22 (bayonet), in the GLS format — the classic pear shape. The 60 W limit is a thermal figure for a filament; an LED equivalent to 60 W actually draws 7–9 W, so the silk stays cool. With a material this pale and translucent, 2700 K is worth choosing — cooler light kills the warm silk tone.
