PD-24 ECO COM1 is a STEINEL motion and presence detector from the Eco Plus series, in the in-ceiling version, in white. Once installed only a round 109 mm ring remains visible. Mounting is by magnetic holder — the housing clips in and out without tools, which matters for later servicing in a suspended ceiling. Two ranges, not one This is the whole difference between a motion detector and a presence detector, and it is worth understanding before buying. Motion — a person walking across the room — is detected across a circle 24 m in diameter (452 m²). Presence — the small movements of someone sitting still at a desk — only within a circle 7.5 m across (44 m²). Radially, that is for movement towards the sensor, the reach is 5.5 m. So the mounting point is chosen for the presence zone, not for the biggest number: a desk where someone is meant to work without the light going out has to fall within 3.75 m of the sensor. What the COM1 output can do The COM1 version switches the circuit on and off — it does not dim and does not hold a constant illuminance. The output is rated 2000 W for resistive loads but only 500 W for LED sources above 8 W, with capacitive load up to 176 µF and a maximum of 50 fittings. That second figure matters more in practice — LED installations reach the limit far sooner than the 2000 W headline suggests. Settings The twilight threshold is adjustable from 2 to 1000 lx and the on-time from 5 seconds to 60 minutes; both are set with potentiometers or via the Smart Remote. The detector has a TEACH mode for learning the brightness threshold, a test mode, and semi- or fully automatic operation. The detection angle is 360°, and individual segments can be masked out with the supplied shrouds — useful when a corridor or a window falls within the field of view. Linking into groups Up to 10 sensors can be cabled together in master/master mode, letting one circuit cover a long passageway or a large room without splitting it into separate zones. There is also a push-button input, so the light can be switched manually regardless of detection. Installation and operating conditions The recommended mounting height is 2.8 m, with an allowed range of 2–10 m. The detector operates from −20 to 50 °C, carries an IP20 rating and a plastic housing.
