The LUMINES HIRO LED profile is a 1 m recessed aluminium profile in a black lacquered finish. Its side flanges are smooth, with no perforation — the profile sinks into a plasterboard surface and, once filled and skimmed, only the line of light stays visible. Dimensions and how it sits in the surface Including the flanges the profile measures 57.4 mm wide and 14.6 mm high — that is the space the build-up has to allow for. The strip chamber is 12 mm deep and between 20.8 and 27.2 mm wide. The manufacturer designed it for recessed mounting finished with jointing compound: the flanges are covered by the filler, so the profile leaves no step on a ceiling or a wall. This piece is 1 m long, and longer runs are built from further pieces — the same version also comes in 2.02 m and 3 m — because the manufacturer offers no connectors for joining profiles into a single line. How much LED strip it holds HIRO is a double profile: the chamber takes two parallel LED strips, each up to 12 mm wide. Two strips side by side give a brighter and more even line than one. The light leaves perpendicular to the profile, so downwards or sideways out of the surface the profile is set into. The aluminium body draws heat away from the strip. The driver is mounted outside the profile, so a place for it has to be planned in advance — inside the build-up, in a box, or at another accessible point.
