GES2002N is a step light recessed into the wall, with a face of 250 × 98 mm, built in aluminium with an opal polycarbonate diffuser hidden behind a curved, crescent-shaped slot. It runs at 13 W / 561 lm at 4000 K, rated IP65. How it lights The face of the fitting is nearly flat, and the light escapes through a narrow, arched slot running across the plate. The effect is distinctive: a soft, diffuse crescent appears on the wall and the tread, brightest below the fitting and fading to the sides. The diode itself stays out of sight — looking straight at the fitting you do not see the source. The beam angle is 80°, so the light spreads widely downwards and sideways rather than in a narrow cone. That is the right distribution for steps and paths: it lights the edge of the tread and the surface, not the eyes of whoever is coming down. 561 lm — a lot for an orientation fitting A typical step light gives 100–250 lm. This one gives 561 lm, two to five times as much, and spaced every second or third step it lights a staircase with no need for anything overhead. Along a path or a retaining wall, one every 2–3 metres makes a continuous band of light. 4000 K is neutral white — legible, good at showing edges and textures, and standard for outdoor circulation lighting. Colour rendering is above 80. The twin version GES2002C runs at warm 3000 K but gives less light — 432 lm instead of 561, which is worth weighing when choosing between them. The cut-out — the number that matters before ordering This is a recessed fitting, so the geometry of the recess decides everything. The manufacturer gives: Face (visible plate): 250 × 98 mm Back box: 249 × 95 × 84 mm Required opening in the wall: 235 × 85 mm, 84 mm deep The back box is included — which matters, because in neighbouring series from the same manufacturer it has to be bought separately. It is set into the wall at the shell stage and the fitting itself slides in only after the wall is finished, which also makes future replacement easy. The 84 mm depth means the wall has to be thick enough — in a thin boundary wall or in cladding over insulation, check before ordering. IP65 and construction IP65 means dust-tight and resistant to a water jet from any direction — so to rain, to hosing the wall down, and to water running down a façade. It is not rated for continuous immersion, so do not fit it where water stands after a downpour. The structure is aluminium, the face in a brown finish (Marrone) — the same series also offers white (GES2000) and graphite grey (GES2001). Protection class I means installation requires an earth conductor.
