CONSTANTINOPLE is a chandelier 80 cm across, built from three stepped rings of clear glass bars gathered by a wide brushed-brass hoop. The whole thing hangs on a brass chain ending in a round ceiling rose. Size and the weight the ceiling has to carry The body itself is around 19.5 cm deep, but with its chain the fitting takes between 61 and 176 cm — the chain shortens link by link, so the same chandelier suits a table under a 2.6 m ceiling and a double-height stairwell alike. The number that matters most, though, is the weight: 24.4 kg. That is more than a hook in a wall plug or a fixing in plasterboard will hold — it needs anchoring into the structural ceiling, and with a suspended ceiling a fixing taken through the board to the joist or slab. At 80 cm across it is also worth checking that there is room to spare at the sides of a table; the fitting covers most of a metre-wide top. Sixteen G9 lampholders Sixteen G9 holders work inside the hoop, each rated up to 40 W. No lamps are supplied, so colour and brightness are yours to choose — and with this many points even low wattages add up to a great deal of light. The glass bars are colourless and clear rather than frosted, so the lamps are visible straight through them. Which bulb you fit is a visual decision here: a frosted lamp diffuses in the glass into an even glow, while a clear one with a visible filament throws hard reflections repeated in every bar. Glass and brass The bars are set in three tiers that step inwards, so the light bounces between them instead of leaving straight downwards. The brushed brass hoop does not reflect as a point and forms a darker band across the middle of the form.
