Hanging lamp FAY 1 M - black
FAY 1 M is a pendant with a flat cylindrical shade of lacquered steel in black. The shade is 25 cm across and 15 cm deep, open at the bottom and black on the inside as well; above it sits a short cylindrical mount carrying the cable. How big it is and how it hangs The whole fitting measures 90 cm from ceiling to the lower rim of the shade. Over a table the drop is usually shortened so that rim sits 70–80 cm above the top — the light then covers the whole surface and the bulb stays out of the sightline of anyone seated. At 25 cm across, the shade keeps its proportion over a table 80–90 cm wide, or over a narrow kitchen island. The same model comes in three diameters with identical shade height and identical drop: FAY 1 S at 15 cm, FAY 1 M at 25 cm and FAY 1 L at 35 cm. Over a longer worktop, several of one size are hung at even spacing. Which bulb to choose The fitting takes one E27 bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is supplied, so the colour and brightness are yours to pick: 2700 K gives warm, yellowish light, and around 800 lm matches the old 60 W incandescent. The shade is open underneath and the bulb projects below its rim, so it is visible from a seated position — which is why a decorative bulb, an ST64 with a visible filament for instance, is the usual choice here. The inside of the shade is black rather than white, so it does not work as a reflector: the light goes down in a tighter cone instead of bouncing back to brighten the ceiling. Build Shade and mount are steel painted black, with no ornament and no visible joins — a plain cylinder with a flat top. The maker is a Polish company based in Chorzów, and the same model is available in white.
