The NORLYS London 494BC is a bollard luminaire in a classic lantern shape, finished in copper patina. The body stands 64 cm tall on a square 30 x 30 cm base, so it sits firmly beside a path, on a terrace wall or by a driveway without blocking the view. The E27 socket lets you choose the lamp yourself and swap it without service tools. Construction and materials Norlys pressure-casts the body in aluminium and powder-coats it. The casting cannot rust, and a powder coat handles damp, frost and UV far better than sprayed paint. The diffuser is clear UV-stabilised polycarbonate, so it does not yellow or turn brittle after a few seasons. The cable entry is sealed with an EPDM gland. IP54 keeps dust out and protects against splashing water from any direction, while impact resistance IK07 corresponds to a 2 J blow, which matters for a fitting standing at knee height. Norlys intends it to be mounted directly on the ground, on a low wall, on a deck or on another structure; for setting into soil there is a separate concreting anchor, index 307ZX0009. The terminals take conductors up to 2 x 2.5 mm squared and allow loop-through wiring, so several bollards can share one circuit without an intermediate junction box. The gland accepts round cable from 7 to 10.5 mm in diameter. Character of the light The photometric body is open light: the lamp is visible through the clear diffuser and radiates in every direction, as in a traditional lantern. The result therefore depends heavily on the lamp you fit. A warm LED filament bulb at around 2700 K recreates the feel of an old gas lantern, while an opal bulb reduces glare when the bollard stands close to a window or a seating area. Norlys recommends Osram LED Parathom Classic and Retrofit E27, and Philips Master LEDbulb, Classic and CorePro E27. Where the London 494BC belongs Norlys designed the fitting to light gardens, terraces and other architectural settings. It works by a front door, along a path, on fence piers and around the edge of a terrace. The classic form pairs well with rendered facades, brick and stone, and the patinated copper contrasts less harshly with planting than black or white.
