The IR Quattro SLIM XS 4m KNX is a Steinel presence detector for recessed ceiling installation, in a black plastic housing (RAL 9005) with a square 80 × 80 mm face and rounded corners. It detects people by passive infrared, measures the room's light level, and talks to the installation over the KNX bus. A round cover plate is included, so the face suits a square or a round ceiling cut-out. Compare that with your own room: anything clearly larger needs a second detector, or a decision to cover only the desk and the walkway. Steinel specifies a mounting height of 2.5–4 m and names 2.8 m as the optimum — higher up widens the observed area, lower down sharpens sensitivity to the small movements of a seated person. The field of view is split into 408 switching zones, and creep-under protection covers the space directly beneath the detector, so someone entering is picked up before reaching the main field. Fitting it into the ceiling and what stays visible The detector is built to flush-mounting box format: the 49 mm deep body disappears into the ceiling and 6 mm of the housing stays below its plane. The 80 × 80 mm face is the dimension to compare with the profile width of the suspended ceiling. IP20 protection and a permitted ambient temperature of 0 to 40 °C place it in heated interiors — not outdoors, and not in rooms that drop below freezing. The plastic housing carries a five-year manufacturer warranty. Power from the KNX bus and how it is set up Power and communication both run over the KNX bus; the detector has a built-in bus coupler and draws 10 mA rated current. It works only as part of an existing KNX installation — wired to ordinary 230 V it will not run. Settings are entered with ETS software, over the bus, with a remote control or through the Smart Remote app; the remote is not included and must be bought separately to change parameters without ETS.
