The Hikone 9923 is an outdoor wall luminaire shaped as a narrow rectangular bar that sits flat against the wall. The housing is a metre tall, 10 cm wide, and projects only 5.5 cm from the masonry. It is finished in anthracite with a structured, slightly rough coating. How much facade it takes At a metre tall it occupies a vertical strip about half the height of an ordinary front door — a figure worth comparing with the divisions of your own facade, because the Hikone reads as a vertical line on the wall rather than as a point of light. With a projection of 5.5 cm it stays out of the way even where the path runs close along the wall. The whole fitting weighs 1.8 kg. The manufacturer offers 150 cm and 200 cm versions in the same family, so several heights can be combined on one wall. How much light it gives, and what kind Two LED strips inside give a combined 2306 lm for 24 W of consumption. That is roughly three times the output of the old 60 W bulb, so the Hikone is not a purely decorative fitting — one of them is enough to light an entrance or a stretch of driveway. The 3000 K colour is warm white: distinctly warmer than daylight and without the bluish cast that cooler light leaves on pale render. The same fitting is also made in 4000 K if more neutral light is wanted. Construction and life outdoors The housing is aluminium and steel with PVC components. An IP54 rating means protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction, so the fitting can hang on an unsheltered wall with no eaves above it. It runs on ordinary 230 V and the transformer is built into the fitting, so no space has to be found for an external driver and none has to be bought.
