The E399 is a battery-powered portable table lamp, black throughout. It stands 26 cm tall: a conical base 5.5 cm across, a thin stem rising from it and a flat head 3.5 cm across on top. The light leaves from under the rim of the head and falls on the stem and the surface below. A backlit touch button sits on the base. How long it runs on one charge The battery holds 2000 mAh, and the manufacturer gives the running time at three brightness levels: 8 hours at full output, 16 hours at half and 80 hours at ten per cent. A full charge takes 4.5 hours. At the highest setting one charge therefore covers a whole evening, and dimmed the lamp lasts several more. The lamp charges over a USB cable. No mains adaptor is included — the manufacturer specifies a separate adaptor, code E099, with 5 V and 1 A on the output. Any USB supply of that rating will charge it, but you have to have one. What light it gives The LED draws 2 W and delivers 168 lm. That is well below room lighting — this much light covers a small tabletop and its immediate surroundings rather than a whole terrace. 3000 K is warm, slightly yellow light, and Ra 80 is enough for food and tableware to look natural. Brightness is set by touching the button on the base, with no remote and no app. The lamp remembers its last setting, so it comes back on the way you left it. The light spreads all the way round, through a full 360 degrees, so the table is lit evenly from every side. Where you can put it IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, including rain that catches the lamp on a garden table. The IK04 rating covers light impacts. Power comes from the 3.7 V battery in protection class III — the lamp has no contact with the mains until you charge it. The body is metal, specifically aluminium, and the shade is glass.
