Inside the syringe filter a glass fiber is used as membrane material. The hydrophilic GF membrane is a inert filter for solutions with high loads of particulate matter or for highly viscous solutions (e.g., soil samples, fermentation broths). The nominal pore size of 1 µm allows higher flow rates than small pore filters. Membrane material is also used as prefilter for CHROMAFIL combi filters, they prevent plugging of the main membrane.
