EXTRAVAGANZA COCONUT is a table lamp whose base is a moulded palm tree: a bark-textured trunk, a spreading crown with leaves in warm golden ochre, and two monkeys climbing the trunk, one of them reaching for the coconuts. A round black fabric shade sits on top of the palm. Overall height is 57,5 cm. How much table it needs The base itself stands on a 14 cm circle, but the shade measures 30,5 cm and overhangs it on every side — that second figure is what decides whether the lamp fits against a wall or beside other things on a bedside table. The palm figure accounts for 30 cm of the total height, the shade for the rest. The lamp weighs 2,1 kg and the height is fixed: the maker quotes the same value as the minimum and the maximum. The cable leaves at the bottom of the base. Bulb and switching The fitting has one E27 socket rated up to 60 W. No bulb is supplied and there is no built-in LED, so the lamp has to be bought separately. Lucide recommends its own A60 filament lamp at 4,9 W and 2200 K — a light noticeably warmer and more amber than the usual 2700 K. The switch sits on the cord, so the lamp is turned off without reaching under the shade. The maker states that the fitting is not dimmable — the switch has two positions only. The shade is black outside and inside, so the light leaves mainly through the open top and bottom. The maker points out that this also lights the crown of the palm underneath. Finish and one thing to keep in mind The figure is made of synthetic material, spray painted and matt; the shade is cotton. Lucide files this lamp under retro and intends it for indoor use only.
