OPTI LED strip 24 V, 16 W/m, cold white 6500 K, IP65HS This is one of the brighter strips in the LED Labs range: 16 W and 1715 lm per metre, at an efficacy of 107 lm/W. The manufacturer classes it as an intensive-output strip — a 5 m reel draws 80 W and returns close to 8600 lm, as much as several conventional ceiling fittings. This is not a decorative strip for a soft glow but a genuine working light source. IP65HS — heat-shrink sealing instead of thick silicone The HS in the designation refers to the sealing method. Instead of being potted in a thick layer of silicone, the strip is covered with a thin heat-shrink sleeve that, once warmed, closes tightly around the whole tape. The manufacturer points to two practical consequences: a thinner layer passes more light than a typical IP65 coating, and the colour is more uniform along the length. The strip suits bathrooms, kitchens, sheltered outdoor spaces and anywhere splash resistance matters — IP65 protects against water jets but does not qualify the strip for permanent immersion. Cold white 6500 K and CRI 80 6500 K is the coolest of the usual white tones — a distinctly bluish light, close to daylight. The manufacturer recommends it where concentration and legibility are needed: in consulting rooms, in technical spaces, in shop windows and for backlighting signage. In a living room or bedroom this tone will usually be too cold — for domestic interiors the 3000 K or 4000 K versions of the same series are the better answer. Colour rendering is CRI 80. 5630 SMD diodes, 60 per metre The strip is built on 5630 SMD diodes — larger and more powerful than the popular 2835 — spaced roughly every 1.7 cm, 60 to a metre, so 300 diodes on the whole reel. The board is 10 mm wide and the cutting section is set every 100 mm: the tape may be shortened only at those points, since a cut mid-section breaks the supply circuit. When planning, it is worth setting out runs in multiples of 10 cm. 24 V supply — what you need to choose The strip runs on 24 V DC and therefore needs a driver; it is not connected directly to 230 V mains. A full 5 m reel is 80 W, and the driver should have headroom — in practice that means a model of at least 100 W. Running at 24 V rather than 12 V has a concrete advantage: at the same power the current is halved, so voltage drop along a long run is smaller and a single run can be longer before the far end visibly dims. The manufacturer states a service life of 20,000 hours, which at three hours a day works out at about 18 years, and covers the strip with a 3-year warranty. Installation and packaging In the IP65HS version the strip is sold in full reels — 5 m, 20 m or 25 m. For mounting in an aluminium profile it is worth remembering that sealed versions are thicker than bare ones: check the channel width of the profile before buying (10 mm of board plus the sleeve). At 16 W/m an aluminium profile is recommended not only for looks but for heat dissipation — operating temperature decides whether the strip reaches its stated 20,000 hours.
