The HUE R 9 DIMM is a round surface-mounted ceiling light 9 cm across and 3.5 cm deep. Its metal ring carries a print imitating beech grain, and a white opal diffuser closes it from below. The manufacturer offers the same fitting in chrome, black chrome, matt nickel and white — this version is a wood-look finish, not wood. How big it is and where it fits Nine centimetres across is smaller than a saucer, and at 3.5 cm deep the fitting barely stands off the ceiling. At that size one unit lights an alcove, a wardrobe or a stretch of hallway — a larger room needs several of them set in a row. It is surface-mounted, so no hole has to be cut in the ceiling and no void is needed above it; a concrete slab is as good a base as a plasterboard one. It weighs 180 g, about as much as a mug of coffee, and fixes on the two side screws visible on the housing. How much light it gives The built-in LED module delivers 540 lm for 6 W. That is roughly two thirds of an old 60 W bulb — light for picking out a particular spot rather than for lighting a living room on its own. The 3000 K colour is warm white, warmer than daylight and a good match for the wood-look ring. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 is the usual figure for general lighting. The opal diffuser spreads the light across the whole underside, so the fitting throws no sharp beam. Dimming, supply and service life The light dims, but only from a TRIAC dimmer — 0–10 V and DALI controllers will not drive it, and the dimmer itself is bought separately. It runs on 230 V with the driver built into the housing, so no separate power supply is needed. The LED module is permanently fitted: no bulbs are bought for it, and when the module reaches the end of its life the whole fitting is replaced. The manufacturer states 50,000 hours.Meer tonen
