Mixon is a semi-flush ceiling light in which an open steel cage takes the place of a shade. The design is Quoizel's; Elstead Lighting distributes it in Europe. The canopy, stem and cage rods are finished in Palladian Bronze, a dark bronze with a soft sheen. Size and mounting The fitting stands 27.1 cm tall and measures 14.5 cm across at its widest point, the bottom ring of the cage. A semi-flush sits straight against the ceiling with no drop, so it builds only those 27 cm downwards — which is what makes it workable in rooms with a low ceiling, where a pendant would hang at head height. The round canopy screws directly to the ceiling and covers the installation box; two decorative screw heads sit on its face. The whole fitting weighs 0.56 kg, so no reinforced fixing is needed. It is built to Class I, which means the circuit must carry an earth conductor — without one it cannot be connected. The light it gives Mixon takes a single E27 lamp of up to 60 W and runs directly on 220–240 V mains. No lamp is supplied and there is no integrated LED module, so the colour and the brightness are yours to choose. The cage is open on every side and hides nothing, so the lamp itself becomes part of the design. Quoizel recommends an Edison-style lamp with a visible filament, and names a specific one: a clear E27 A60 at 8 W, 800 lm and 3000 K, warm white at roughly the brightness of the old 60 W bulb. The fitting works on a dimmer provided the lamp itself is dimmable. Construction Everything is steel: a plate canopy, a short fluted stem and a cage of bent rods held by three hoops that tapers towards the bottom. The open form collects no dust inside a shade and takes nothing away from the output. The maker specifies it for dry interiors only and publishes no IP rating for it, so it does not belong in a shower zone or outdoors.
