The s.luce Orb Modular in its twelve-light version is a pendant built from twelve mouth-blown clear glass globes, each hanging on its own black cable from a single round canopy 80 cm across. The globes come in four different diameters, and the height of each one is set separately. What the set consists of In this colourway the manufacturer puts together twelve globes in four sizes: two at 20 cm, four at 30 cm, four at 40 cm and two at 50 cm in diameter. Each hangs on its own cable, shortened during installation, so the arrangement of the globes is a decision made on site rather than a factory setting. Maximum drop is 500 cm. That is a figure for spaces open through two storeys — a stairwell, an entrance hall, a living room with a gallery — and one to compare against the distance from ceiling to floor where the light is going. The canopy alone measures 80 cm across, so it takes up considerably more ceiling than an ordinary rose. Bulbs and dimming The fitting has twelve E27 sockets, each taking a bulb of up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included, so twelve of them have to be bought separately, and they determine the colour and brightness of the whole piece. The glass is clear, which leaves the bulb on show — its shape and the look of its filament are part of how this light looks. The fitting is dimmable, but, as the manufacturer states, only with suitable bulbs: you need lamps described as dimmable plus a dimmer. It runs on 230 V and is Safety Class I, so an earth conductor has to reach the mounting point. Build and installation The globes are mouth-blown, so each differs slightly from the others; the manufacturer describes every light as a one-off piece. The canopy, the cables and the remaining metalwork are black. The manufacturer draws attention to the ceiling's load capacity: a single-boarded plasterboard ceiling carries roughly 40 kg on average and a double-boarded one roughly 70 kg — below that, suitable anchors are needed. It is worth settling before ordering, because twelve glass globes together with an 80 cm canopy add up to a load measured in tens of kilograms.Meer tonen
