Karlstad 230GA is a Norwegian outdoor wall light by Norlys in a hot-dip galvanized steel finish, with an exposed polycarbonate lens and an E27 socket. IP55, IK09, 25-year anti-corrosion warranty. Hot-dip galvanizing is a coating, not a colour Hot-dip galvanizing means immersing the finished part in a bath of molten zinc, which bonds to the steel metallurgically — the layer grows into the substrate rather than sitting on top of it. The result is the characteristic silver-grey, matt and faintly mottled surface that weathers over the years to an even ash tone. This finish behaves differently from paint: a scratch does not expose the steel, because zinc protects the edge electrochemically as well. Norlys warrants the coating for 25 years against corrosion. Built for a coastal climate IP55 means full dust protection and resistance to water jets from any direction — rain driven sideways is not a problem. IK09 is mechanical resistance to a 10-joule impact, a rating rarely seen on decorative fittings and one that matters where a lamp hangs beside a walkway, in a stairwell or in a public building. The −20 to +45 °C operating range covers a Northern European winter with room to spare. The lens is UV-stabilised polycarbonate, so it will not yellow after a few seasons; the cable entry is sealed by an EPDM gland. Wall mounting, corners included The fitting is a wall light: it fixes to the wall on the mounting box supplied. Norlys also allows for installation on a building corner — that is what the separately sold corner bracket, index 153XX0009, is for. The terminal block accepts conductors up to 2×2.5 mm², or up to 2×1.5 mm² where the circuit loops through successive fittings; the entry takes round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The whole fitting weighs 1.47 kg net. Light source and colour versions The E27 socket is left open — no bulb is included, and the maker stresses that it is end-user replaceable, which matters on a fitting whose coating is warranted for 25 years: the body will outlive several generations of lamps. Permitted power is LED max 9 W; among suitable sources Norlys names the Philips Master LEDbulb 806 lm / 8.5 W / 2700 K in its dimmable version. The lens is clear, so the bulb itself is visible — worth choosing one with a handsome envelope. Karlstad 230 is also made as 230BL (black RAL 9005), 230CO (natural copper) and 230WH (white RAL 9003).
