The LED Labs PROFI is a single-colour 12 V LED strip in cold white 6500 K, supplied on a 5 m reel. The reel carries 300 SMD 5050 diodes, i.e. 60 per metre, on a 10 mm wide PCB. The whole strip is sealed in IP65HS heat-shrink sleeving.How much light it gives, and what colourOne metre delivers 1090 lm at 12 W, an efficacy of 91 lm/W. 6500 K is a cool, slightly bluish light in which detail is easy to see — suited to working light rather than mood lighting. Colour rendering is at least Ra 80, so colours look correct, if less true to life than under Ra 90.At 60 diodes per metre the individual points of light show on a bare strip. For an even line, the manufacturer recommends mounting it in an aluminium profile with a diffuser.Power supply and run lengthNo power supply is included, and the strip needs one with a 12 V DC output. Size the supply by multiplying 12 W by the run length in metres and adding a 10% margin — for the full 5 m reel that is 60 W, so a supply of at least 66 W.The strip can be cut every 50 mm, so a run can be matched to a cabinet or recess to within 5 cm. The back carries double-sided, thermally conductive adhesive tape for fixing into a clean profile. Dimming works only with specified dimmers.IP65HS sleeving and where to fit itThe heat-shrink sleeve protects the diodes from dust and water jets, and because it is thinner than a silicone coating, the IP65HS strip is brighter than the IP65 version with the same specification. The manufacturer gives an operating range of -20 to +45 °C.The strip is intended for under kitchen wall units and the kitchen, the bathroom, the walk-in wardrobe and outdoors in the garden. The PCB carries 3 oz copper, and the manufacturer states a lifetime of 26,200 hours (L70/B50) and over 30,000 switching cycles — more than 23 years at three hours a day.
