Alma PND-40668-5-HBR is a five-light pendant in gold-finished steel. Each of the five shades is a cylinder built from a gold frame and two rows of faceted, colourless crystals; the shades hang from a round ceiling rose on black cords of differing lengths. How big it is and where to hang it The rose and the spread of the shades fit inside a 30 cm circle, and the fitting itself is 80 cm tall. The manufacturer gives 120 cm as the total suspension height, so under a standard 250 cm ceiling the lowest shade sits about 130 cm above the floor — low for a walkway, and exactly the height at which a lamp is hung over a table. A 30 cm spread with five light points means a vertical cascade rather than a row. Over a round table or in a stairwell that arrangement fills the height; over a long rectangular top it leaves the ends dark. Which bulbs to buy The fitting has five E27 sockets, and the manufacturer gives 40 W as the maximum for a single bulb — the limit applies to each socket separately. Bulbs are not included, so five have to be bought to put the lamp into use. Italux allows both classic and LED bulbs, and describes dimming as possible with a suitable light source — that is, a bulb marked dimmable together with a dimmer in the circuit. The crystal frame is open and the bulb shows through it entirely, so the look of the lit lamp depends on the shape of the source chosen. Build and interior The structure is steel with a gold finish and the shades are glass. The crystal facets break the bulb's light into points on the ceiling and walls — an effect the shade produces on its own, whatever source is fitted.
