BENTO is a table lamp from the Polish brand Keter Lighting of Częstochowa. Its recognisable feature is the openwork plywood base – cut slats forming an open, barrel-shaped cage you can see through. On top sits a classic tapered grey fabric shade. The lamp stands 46 cm tall on a 30.5 × 30.5 cm footprint. Real wood, not an imitation The frame is plywood, stained black – not a wood-effect plastic. That has two consequences: every piece shows a slightly different pattern of layers along the cut edges, and the structure stays light despite its size. The openwork is not only decorative: with the bulb lit, the lamp casts the pattern of its own slats onto the surface and the wall, so there is a light effect beyond the shade itself. The bulb is a separate purchase The lamp has an E27 lampholder and takes bulbs of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. With a fabric shade and a wooden frame, an LED source is the sensible choice – at the same brightness it runs far cooler than a traditional 60 W bulb. The lamp is not dimmable: any dimming has to come from the bulb plus an external dimmer. Where it works The manufacturer lists it as a bedside lamp but also for a living room, a hallway, a kitchen and hospitality spaces. 46 cm is tall for a bedside table – worth checking that the shade will not sit at eye level for someone lying down. On a chest of drawers, a console or a bar the proportion works better.
