Orb is a pendant built on a white bar 160 cm long, cut through by a single continuous slot. Five hand-blown glass spheres in three diameters hang on cables led out of that slot. In this colourway some of the spheres are smoked and some are clear — three grey and two transparent. How large it is and what to hang it over The bar measures 160 × 25 cm and stands 4 cm deep, so the footprint matches a table top for six to eight people — over a shorter top the outer spheres reach past its edge. The manufacturer intends it for a dining table and a kitchen island. Maximum drop is 150 cm from the ceiling. Over a table the cables are usually shortened so the bottom of the spheres sits 70–80 cm above the top: the light then covers the whole surface and the people seated do not have the source in their eyeline. The fitting weighs 9.55 kg and the parcel 15.555 kg. Five spheres on one track The slot in the bar runs through, so every sphere can be slid along it and hung at its own height. You set the spacing and the rhythm of the spheres yourself rather than taking them as delivered. The spheres are 20, 30 and 40 cm across and are mouth-blown, so each differs slightly in wall thickness and in the figure of the glass. Smoked glass damps the glare of the bulb; clear glass leaves it exposed. Which bulbs to buy The fitting has five E27 sockets rated up to 40 W each. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself, and behind the clear spheres the shape of the bulb is visible — over a table most people reach for 2700–3000 K. The fitting is dimmable, but that needs dimmable bulbs and a dimmer; it has no control gear of its own. Five lamps of around 800 lm each give the main light over a table, while lower figures move the fitting into an accent role. Finish and wiring The bar is metal finished in white and the shades are glass.
