The s.luce Made Ring XL is a pendant light shaped as a closed ring 120 cm across, made of aluminium in a gold finish. The hoop is 8 cm tall and 1 cm thick, and the light comes from an LED strip running along its inner edge. The ring hangs on steel cables fixed off-centre, so it sits at a slight tilt. How much light a 120 cm ring gives The built-in LED strip puts out 5264 lm for 53 W. That is more than six times what an old 60 W bulb gave, so a single ring lights a whole room rather than only the area beneath it. At 3000 K the light is warm white, close to a traditional incandescent lamp. Colour rendering is above Ra 90, which means fabric, wood and leather keep almost their daylight colour under it - that matters where the fitting hangs over a table or a seating area. Size and suspension A 120 cm ring occupies a circle wider than a typical dining table, so that figure is the one to compare with your furniture layout and with the width of the space it is to hang in. The hoop itself is slim: 8 cm tall and 1 cm thick. A ceiling canopy and a steel-cable suspension of up to 5 m come in the box, and the cables are shortened during installation. That length allows the fitting to hang in a stairwell or in a room with a high ceiling, and the drop can be changed again later. Dimming and supply The luminaire runs on 230 V and dims on a phase dimmer, leading edge or trailing edge alike. Control needs a dimmer of one of those two types; without one the ring only runs at full output. The light source is built in and ships with the fitting, so no lamp has to be bought, but it cannot be swapped out at home either. s.luce rates the strip at 25 000 h, which is around 22 years at three hours a day. The IP20 rating restricts the ring to indoor use. Where the maker intends it s.luce aims the Made Ring range at representative interiors: galleries, foyers, stairwells and offices. The large diameter and the off-centre suspension work best where the ring is seen from below and from the side, not only from directly underneath.
