VT-8555 is a round ceiling light 56.5 cm across and 7.5 cm deep. The white polycarbonate cover carries a fine glitter speckle, which reads as a light sheen when the fitting is off and as points brighter than the rest of the disc when it is lit. The light source is a built-in 60 W LED module, operated from the remote control supplied with it. Size and installation A 56.5 cm disc takes up as much ceiling as a small chandelier, and at 7.5 cm deep it drops less far below the ceiling than the thickness of a typical suspended-ceiling beam. It is meant for rooms of roughly fifteen square metres and up — over a smaller space a disc of this diameter visually dominates. The cover twists off, the body screws to the ceiling, and the wires go into a terminal block with three connections: live, neutral and protective earth. The fitting requires the earth conductor to be connected, so a ceiling box without earth is not enough; the manufacturer requires installation by a qualified electrician. How much light it gives and how it is controlled The module delivers 6000 lm while drawing 60 W, that is about 100 lm per watt. For comparison, the old 60 W incandescent bulb gave roughly 800 lm, so one such fitting replaces a room's main lighting rather than supplementing it. The remote switches the colour of the light between three settings: 3000 K, warm and slightly yellow, 4000 K, neutral, and 6400 K, cold and close to daylight. The same remote dims the output continuously, turns on the night-light mode and sets the switch-off timer to 30, 60 or 90 minutes. The manufacturer gives a range of up to 5 m and does not include the two AAA batteries the remote needs. Light quality and operating conditions The declared colour rendering index is Ra 80, while the R9 figure, which covers reds, is only 11. Reds and pinks look noticeably muted under this light, so above a work surface where colours decide, a fitting with a higher R9 does the job better. Colour consistency between units is declared at 6 MacAdam ellipses, which with two fittings mounted side by side can show as a difference in the shade of white. The LED module is built in permanently and cannot be replaced — once the source reaches the end of its life, the whole fitting is replaced.
