A PROFI LED strip by LED Labs for 12 V, with SMD 2835 diodes spaced about 17 mm apart (60 LEDs per metre, 300 on the whole 5 m reel). It gives cold white 6500 K light with a colour rendering index of CRI 90, and the whole strip is sealed in a clear heat-shrink sleeve in the IP65HS version. Power, brightness and choosing a driver The strip draws 4.8 W per metre, so a full 5 m reel is 24 W. That is the figure you need when choosing the 12 V driver, which is not included: for the whole reel it must be rated at least 24 W, ideally with some headroom. A 24 V driver cannot be used, as the strip runs on 12 V DC only. 400 lm per metre is accent-lighting level: it works under cabinets, in shelving and in recesses, but it will not replace a room's main light. 6500 K is cool, slightly bluish light, and CRI 90 keeps the colours of objects in its reach looking natural. Cutting, fitting and moisture protection The strip can be shortened every 50 mm at the points marked on it, so its length can be matched to a recess or profile to within 5 cm. The back carries a double-sided, thermally conductive adhesive tape, and the board is 10 mm wide, which is the figure to compare with the inside of an aluminium profile. At 60 diodes per metre, individual light points are visible without a profile and cover. The IP65HS heat-shrink sleeve protects the diodes from moisture and splashes, so the strip can work in a bathroom or a kitchen. The manufacturer gives an operating temperature range of -20 to +45 °C. Lifetime and warranty The PCB has a 3 oz copper layer, which reduces voltage drop along the strip. The manufacturer states a lifetime of 35,000 hours (L70/B50) and more than 30,000 switching cycles, and gives a 3-year warranty on the IP65HS version.
