The five-light s.luce Velo is a pendant built on a plain rectangular bar 160 cm long. Five separate cables carry cylindrical shades of clear, vertically ribbed glass, each 18 cm across and 33 cm tall. In this version the suspension — bar, cables and lampholders — is white. How big it is and what to hang it over The bar is 160 cm long, roughly the span of a standard six-seat table; over a shorter top it will overhang. That is the first measurement to hold against your own table. Each shade hangs on a 150 cm cable and each one shortens independently — the bottom edge of a shade usually ends up 70 to 80 cm above the tabletop, so the light covers the whole surface without shining into the eyes of anyone seated. The maker states the cables can enter the bar at any point, so an off-centre ceiling outlet still allows a central position over the table. The canopy measures 160 x 10 x 4 cm. How much light it gives and what you have to buy The fitting takes five E27 lamps of up to 40 W each. Bulbs are not included, so colour and brightness are yours to choose: five lamps of around 800 lm each match five old 60 W bulbs, and over a dining table 2700 to 3000 K is the usual pick, meaning warm, slightly yellow light. The shades are open at the bottom and send the light straight down onto the table. The glass is clear, so the filament stays visible throughout; with filament lamps its shape becomes part of the fitting. Dimming is possible but needs both dimmable bulbs and a dimmer in the circuit — the luminaire carries no dimming electronics of its own. Build and connection The structure is a metal bar with lampholders plus five glass shades. The fitting is protection class I, so it has to be connected to an earth conductor; a circuit without earthing will not run it. Ingress protection IP20 keeps it to dry rooms. It runs on 230 V. The complete fitting weighs 10 kg and the parcel 15 kg, so ceiling and fixing have to carry that load; a plasterboard ceiling needs a fixing into the supporting structure. Where it belongs The maker intends the Velo for the dining table and for a kitchen with its own eating area.
