The 5-light s.luce Velo is five glass shades hung from a single round canopy 60 cm across. Each shade is a cylinder 33 cm tall and 18 cm in diameter, made of hand-blown, vertically ribbed clear glass and open at the bottom. Canopy, lampholders and cables are black. How big it is and where to hang it The canopy measures 60 cm across and 4 cm deep, and its five cable outlets are fixed — the arrangement of the shades cannot be changed, though each one can hang at its own height. The cables are 500 cm long and are shortened individually, so the fitting is meant for tall spaces: a stairwell, an open mezzanine, a hall that opens onto the floor above. The whole set weighs 19 kg. At that weight the fixing has to match the ceiling structure — in a plasterboard ceiling the lamp has to reach a load-bearing member. The fitting is protection class I, so it needs an earth conductor at the connection. How much light it gives Each shade holds one E27 lampholder rated for up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and the brightness yourself. It is worth comparing the combined output of five bulbs against what you need to light: roughly 800 lm from one bulb matches the old 60 W incandescent. The glass is clear and open at the bottom, so the bulb stays visible and most of the light goes straight down. The fitting can be dimmed, but that takes dimmable bulbs and a separate dimmer — neither is in the box. Which room it suits The manufacturer intends this version for open staircases, lower galleries and mezzanines and for combined living and dining areas; it also names stairwells and smaller reception areas. Over a table the lower edges of the shades are usually set 70–80 cm above the top. The form is minimal and modern: a plain black disc, five thin cables and the same glass cylinder repeated five times, with no ornament.
