The s.luce Santa Air is a five-light pendant: five flat, half-round shades 11 cm across hang on thin cables from a single round canopy 60 cm in diameter. The bodies are white and made of metal, and each one houses a built-in LED module. How big it is and where to hang it The canopy measures 60 cm across — compare that figure with the area the light is meant to hang over. The shades themselves are small: 11 cm in diameter and 3.2 cm tall, so the fitting reads as a group of separate light points rather than one large body. The canopy is modular and every pendant is adjustable in height, so the shades can be arranged in a line, in a cluster or at different levels. The manufacturer intends the light for smaller dining tables and for counters; over a table the shades are usually hung so their lower edge sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop. How much light it gives The five modules produce 4200 lm together while drawing 55 W — enough to light a dining area as the main source. The 2700 K colour temperature is warm and slightly yellow, close to an old filament bulb, and a colour rendering index above Ra 92 means food and fabrics keep their colour almost as they would in daylight. The beam angle is 40°, so the light falls in a focused cone onto the surface below each shade instead of spreading across the room. The fitting can be dimmed, but it needs a separate leading- or trailing-edge dimmer, which is not included. Light source and build The LED modules are permanently built in: there is no bulb to buy and none to replace. The manufacturer quotes 25,000 hours of life and 15,000 switching cycles, which covers many years at a few hours a day, after which the whole fitting is replaced.
