The s.luce Orb 12-light is a set of twelve glass globes hung from a single round canopy 80 cm across, finished in black. The globes come in four diameters and two kinds of glass — smoked and clear. Each hangs on its own cable, and every cable is set to its own length. How big it is and where it hangs The set holds two globes of 20 cm, four of 30 cm, four of 40 cm and two of 50 cm. They are spread across the 80 cm canopy, so the fitting takes up a circle of roughly that width at the ceiling. Maximum drop is 500 cm, measured from the ceiling to the lowest globe. That is a figure meant for a space two storeys high — a stairwell, a hall with a gallery, a living room open to the floor above. At normal room height the cables are shortened during installation. How many bulbs you need to buy Each globe has its own E27 lampholder rated up to 40 W, so the whole fitting takes twelve bulbs. They are not included, which leaves the colour and the brightness to you — living spaces are usually lit at 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellow light. Check the diameter of the bulbs you buy, because each one goes in through the opening in its globe. The manufacturer gives a limit per size: the 20 and 30 cm globes take an E27 bulb up to 8.5 cm across, the 40 cm globes up to 12 cm, and the 50 cm globes up to 15 cm. Large decorative bulbs therefore only fit the biggest globes. The fitting can be dimmed, but it carries no dimming electronics of its own — you need bulbs marked as dimmable and a dimmer. Build The globes are glass; the canopy and the suspensions are painted metal. Smoked glass mutes the light and leaves the filament as a darker glow, while clear glass leaves the bulb fully visible — which is why the maker recommends decorative vintage bulbs for this series. The shape is minimal: globes, thin cables and the flat disc of the canopy, with no ornament. The fitting arrives ready to connect, and the positions and heights of the globes are arranged on the canopy during installation.
