The LUMINES APA12 is an aluminium edge profile for building a line of light into plasterboard construction. It is fixed at the edge of the build-up so that its wide flange hides under the board and is plastered over, leaving only a narrow slot of light flush with the ceiling or wall surface. This version is white lacquered, 2 m long, catalogue number 10-0401-20. Built into 12 mm board The number in the name is the thickness of the board the flange slides under: APA12 is made for 12 mm plasterboard (the manufacturer's mounting diagram shows a standard 12.5 mm board), while the larger APA16 takes 16 mm board. The profile is screwed to the framing and then plastered in together with the board. Only the part of the section that stays visible after installation is lacquered; the surface that gets covered is left raw. Light leaves the profile perpendicular to its face, which is why APA12 is most often used in illuminated ceiling coves, in dropped ceilings, along the edges of built-in construction and as a linear accent on a wall. It is not an omnidirectional diffuse fitting but a narrow, directed line of light. That is the real ceiling when choosing a strip, particularly where the profile is plastered in and heat escapes less easily than in an open installation. Covers and accessories The profile is sold as the aluminium extrusion alone. A finished light line also needs an LED strip, a driver placed outside the profile, and a cover that clips in from the top. A clear cover passes the most light but hides nothing; a milky one gives an even line at the cost of part of the output. Lengths and planning the run APA12 is made in 1.0 m, 2.02 m and 3.0 m sections, and the manufacturer cuts custom lengths up to 6 m to order. There are no couplers for joining several sections into one continuous line, so a long run is planned either as a sequence of separate sections or as a single custom length.
