FLORA is a wall light in which the whole structure disappears into a plant form: from a steel back plate wrapped in leaves rises a cluster of slender stems ending in flower cups. Three of them are open and hold the lamps inside; the rest stay closed buds. The petals are forged and hand-painted, so the surface marking differs on every bloom – the fitting behaves more like a sculpture than a lamp. Three E14 light points The sconce takes three E14 lamps of up to 40 W each on a 220–240 V supply. Bulbs are not included, and here the choice matters more than usual: the lamps are visible inside the open blooms, so a candle lamp with a clear envelope and a decorative filament becomes part of the composition, while a frosted one mutes it. There is no dimmer in the fitting – brightness control works only with a dimmable lamp on a compatible wall dimmer. The light it gives This is not a fitting for lighting a room. The closed buds and narrow cups screen most of the flux, and what escapes falls on the wall as soft patches and leaf shadows. FLORA belongs where accompanying light and a strong decorative accent are wanted: by a dressing table, in a hallway, flanking a mirror, on a living-room wall. At 43.8 cm tall with a 17.8 cm projection it is clearly present, yet does not get in the way in a narrow corridor. Collection The model comes from the Lisa McDennon collection designed for Hinkley, distributed in Europe by Quintiesse. The same sconce also exists in a textured plaster finish (reference QN-FLORA-3W-WHT) – matt white and markedly cooler in feel than this burnished gold version.
